Apply a root lifter or mousse, we recommend the NuMe Root Werk, when your hair is still wet. Renowned celebrity hair stylist Harry Josh told InStyle Magazine, "You want things that contain zero moisture that promote stiffness and hardness. That's what makes it pliable and what keeps the volume going all day long."
To add some shine and eliminate frizz, it's also a good idea to apply a serum like the NuMe White Truffle Serum, primarily concentrating on the ends, not your scalp.
For Straight Hair:
Use a round bristle brush to blow dry section by section.
For Curly Hair:
When hair is still wet, flip your head over and separate curls by raking your ringers through. Gently wrap in a towel to remove excess wetness. Remove the towel and after applying mousse, root lifter, or the NuMe Blah to Bouncy Blow Dry Cream (and a serum if your ends are prone to dryness), dry with a diffuser attachment on medium to high heat but low speed.
Use Hair Rollers
While they might seem old school, hair rollers can definitely give you a lift. Wrap the top half of your hair in sections with velcro hair rollers, blow dry each section briefly then let them sit for at least 15 minutes (longer if you've got the time!)
Tease that Mane
While "teasing" is the most commonly used term, backcombing is a technique that delivers similar results but causes less damage to the hair. While teasing involves moving the brush up and down, backcombing is just pushing the hair down.
When hair is completely dried and styled, create a section at the top starting at your crown. Spray underneath the section of hair at the bottom cose to the root with a firm hold hairspray like the NuMe Freeze Please Finishing Hairspray. Then gently use a teasing brush to brush hair down. Once the top section is fully lifted, repeat with side sections.
Then go through all of the hair and very gently run the teasing brush through to make the look natural. YouTube beauty influencer Kelly Strack has an incredibly easy tutorial for adding volume with back combing here.
Get a Trim
This might seem like a no brainer but it's important to keep up with regular haircuts if you want to keep that hair as high as possible. Sometimes hair loses volume when it's time for a cut. This is especially true with curly hair. If your curls are limp, try getting the split ends cut. It will immediately add bounce and make your hair feel less weighed down.
Use a Mask
Deep conditioning masks like our Mane Goals Deep Repair Mask can restore and repair damaged hair. Using a mask on a weekly to bi-weekly basis keeps hair healthy and strands invigorated.
Whether you find extensions you can slip on or clip in at the convenience of your home, or visit a salon to do the job, this is a sure fire way to make your hair appear fuller and longer.
Like any hair hacks, adding volume with certain techniques can take practice, but if you're armed with the right products, it's definitely doable.
