Hide Greasy Roots with These Adorable Hairstyles Hacks | Best Hair Care 2019
April 15, 2019

Your first weapon against greasy roots is a dry shampoo that you love. While ladies with finer manes often think they are a slave to washing, even they can get away with going a few days (or more) between sudsing with the right dry shampoo and certain style tricks.

Wondering if you should opt for powder or aerosol dry shampoo? While both are doable for any hair type, a powder along the lines of the NuMe This Dry Shampoo is Everything Dry Shampoo Powder is often dubbed better for thinner hair while spray is optimal for thick tresses. An aerosol dry shampoo like our Dirty to Flirty Dry Shampoo Aerosol also has more of a texturizing element.

Down 'n Dirty

If you still want to wear your hair down and after several days since you last washed or did a blowout, there are a few tricks you can apply. First off, applying dry shampoo to the roots after the initial dry will prolong the freshness of the blowout. But after a few days, applying a dry shampoo like our Fresh 'n Fab Dry Shampoo Aerosol to the roots then massaging it into the scalp with your fingers or brushing it through can be a quick fix. You can also pull the top half of your hair up just behind the crown. Spray hairspray our Hair-Fie Ready Finish and Shine Spray underneath the section and tease it a bit, then set it with the cold can of hairspray like San Francisco based stylist Silvia Reis (AKA ElleBangs on YouTube) demonstrates in this video. Then let the section of hair down so it's got a bit more volume in the back. Blasting it with the cold air heat setting from your dryer seals the deal.

Down with a Pomp

Another cute way to wear your hair down and conceal oiliness is by creating a pompadour with a small top section of your hair. This look serves to keep hair away from the scalp and prevent further oil buildup. YouTube beauty expert Milabu creates a super-easy-to-replicate example of this style in this video. She mentions prepping her hair with dry shampoo, avoiding a brush when it's been a few days since she washed and securing the pomp with larger-sized bobby pins.

Milkmaid Braids

Not to be confused with a crown braid, which is slightly more complicated, milkmaid braids are crazy simple. The two looks are very similar though. Braids are a perfect option for dirty hair because they'll hold better, and with this look, you can hide oily roots near your forehead. This tutorial (a crown braid is similar to the milkmaid style) from beauty influencer Sazan Hendrix demonstrates how easy it is to create this look by simply braiding pigtails, gently loosening the braids, folding them over the top of your head and securing them with bobby pins and hairspray. Since it's a very lightweight hold, our Freeze Please Finishing Spray would add both shine and hold without exasperating any greasiness.

Sophisticated Low Pony

In the same aforementioned dirty hair hacks video, SF hair expert Silvia Reis demonstrates this super easy ponytail. Apply some Clean N' Mean Dry Shampoo Powder to the roots and brush through. Then part your hair slightly to one side and pull back into the ponytail, making sure to push some of the hair above the elastic up as you pull it tighter to add volume. Spray the strands behind your ears lightly with a hair spray like the NuMe Hottie Alert Shine Spray. It's easy, pretty, and grease-free.
